Run by Paddle Australia Sea Guide Bart Malecki, an avid Down Wind ski paddler, this session is best suited for ocean ski and touring sea kayaks. We run our sessions in Jervis Bay - a spectacular backdrop for an early morning paddle. Sessions are designed to promote efficient paddling technique, improve fitness and are a great way to move towards the amazing sport of down-wind paddling or just improving overall cardio health and paddling skills. Our Blast paddles are structured to provide a variety and vary from 45 minute tempo paddles to various interval style structured sessions. We welcome a range of paddlers and fitness levels and have designed out-and-back routes to ensure that we paddle and finish as a group. Bart will provide some coaching during the session and focus on sound forward stroke technique and a good range of defensive paddling skills.
If your goal is to improve core strength and general paddling ability, or move towards the fantastic world of downwind paddling, then this is the perfect session.
19th Oct - Session Focus: Posture, seating position, core muscle engagement - 2 x 20 minute reps with a 2 minute break
2nd Nov - Session Focus: Torso rotation and leg drive - 4 x 10 minute reps with a 1 minute break
16th Nov - Session Focus: Paddle placement, catch, drive and exit - Pyramid session 5,10,15,10,5 with 1 min break
30th Nov - Session Focus: Putting it all together- 4 x 10 minute reps with a 1 minute break - focus on different aspect each rep
Venue: What better place to exercise then on the pristine waters of Jervis Bay. It’s the best looking gym in the world. We meet at Sharknet Beach in Huskisson on Bowen Street at 7am. Routes will be out and back depending on weather conditions.
Equipment: BYO equipment is welcome, see below for minimum requirements.
Rental: We have a fleet of fast touring kayaks and ocean ski available for hire. These come as a pack with paddle, leash and life jacket. Call us about renting equipment.
